About the British Election Studies Information System (BESIS)

The first edition of BESIS was deposited with the UK Data Archive in 1996 on CD-ROM. The current edition BESIS consists of:

  • the complete post-election, British Election surveys from 1964 to 2010
  • national elections turnout and voting results by party and by consituency, including interactive constituency maps

The election surveys

Analyse the responses to over 5,000 survey questions with results shown in time-series tables and charts. There are three pathways to search for questions. Questions may be found by:

  • drop-down content lists of topics
  • full-text searches of the question wording
  • browsing the survey-by-survey listings
