Welcome to the British Election Studies Information System

BESIS includes all the post-election, British Election surveys from 1964 to 2017, with over 5,000 survey questions.
Please note that the BES 2017 dataset is the first release by the British Election Study team, made available for download from their web site.

Accessing tables and charts of results is straightforward. Once registered:
  • Log in and then select the election years to be studied here
  • Choose between a Search of the full text of all available questions or using the Contents List of major topics
  • You can also browse the survey-by-survey listing of the questions
Time-series results of tables and charts will be generated automatically.

Registration is straightforward and provides immediate access. Users may choose between:

  • advanced access which allows users to customise the facilities they need to best suit their research.
